Carson-Newman's Duncan, Wingate's Nallenweg Named Capital One Academic All-Americans
Carson-Newman kicker Curt Duncan and Wingate running back Andrew Nallenweg have been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, which recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom, in the community and in competition.
TOWSON, Md. – Carson-Newman kicker Curt Duncan and Wingate running back Andrew Nallenweg have been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, which recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom, in the community and in competition.
Duncan carries a 3.60 studying English at Carson-Newman. The junior led all SAC kickers this season with 102 points. He made 14-of-15 field goal attempts and connected on all 60 PATs for the Eagles, who reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Football Championship.
Duncan's strong season has also landed him spots on the All-SAC First Team and BSN All-America First Team.
Nallenweg, meanwhile, has a 3.40 GPA at Wingate majoring in biology. He rushed for 210 yards and nine touchdowns in 2012 for the Bulldogs, who finished tied for second in the SAC standings.
The senior was also a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy.
To be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America Team, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have reached sophomore academic and athletic standings their current institution.
