ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week for games played the sixth week of the season. Mars Hill running back Jamel Harbison was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Wingate defensive end Nick Napolitano was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Bulldogs' punter Chandler Phillips picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Harbison, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., rushed for 290 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Lions to a 37-31 win over Brevard on Oct. 11. He ran the ball a total of 41 times in the contest to finish with an average of 7.1 yards per carry. Harbison's 290 yards is the most for a Lion since the 2011 season. He also added a pair of receptions for 13 yards in the win. The honor marks his first South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Napolitano, a senior from Shallotte, N.C., posted 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a sack as Wingate defeated Catawba 30-19 on Oct. 11. His tackles for loss totaled 18 yards, while his sack pushed the Catawba Indians back 11 yards. Of Napolitano's 10 tackles, five of them were solo stops. He also added a batted pass in the win. The award is his second South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Phillips, a freshman from Lutz, Fla., put five punts inside the 10 yard line as he finished the game with eight boots for 274 yards. Three of his five punts inside the 10 came in the fourth quarter with the Bulldogs protecting a one-touchdown lead. Two of his fourth quarter punts had the Catawba Indians starting so deep in their own territory that Wingate posted a pair of safeties to put the game out of reach. His eight punts and 274 yards are each career-highs. The honor marks his first South Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week selection this season.
