Wingate’s Sean Barnette Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University's Sean Barnette was named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Barnette, a senior guard from Rock Hill, S.C., averaged 18.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in leading Wingate to a 3-0 week.
The Northwestern High School graduate started off the week with
a 25-point performance Monday in Wingate's 78-76 win over No. 12
Barton, the defending NCAA Division II National Champions, and hit
the game-winning shot with 0.7 seconds remaining.
Barnette, the 2006-07 SAC MVP, added a double-double (19 points and
a season-high 13 rebounds) in the team's 69-64 victory over
Caldwell (N.J.) on Friday before finishing with 11 points and eight
rebounds to help Wingate down St. Edwards (Texas), 78-53, Saturday
in the OrthoCarolina Classic.
All three Bulldog opponents last week were NCAA Division II Playoff Teams in 2006-07.
Barnette, a 2006-07 third-team All-American and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III College Division III First Team honoree, currently leads the team in scoring (21.5 ppg) and is second in rebounding (7.0 rpg).
The SAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week is voted on by the league's sports information directors.
