Wingate’s Sean Barnette Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University's Sean Barnette has been named South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today. Barnette wins the award for the fourth time this year.
Barnette, a senior from Rock Hill, S.C., averaged 26.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and four assists in leading Wingate to a pair of wins last week over Lenoir-Rhyne (80-72) on the road Wednesday and Carson-Newman (99-89) in the regular season finale Saturday at home.
Barnette also shot 55.6 percent (20-of-36) from the field as the
Bulldogs clinched a share of the league title with the Bears.
The Northwestern High School graduate started the week with a 31-point, 16-rebound and five-assist performance versus L-R before tallying another double-double (22 points and 11 rebounds) against the Eagles.
Barnette, the 2006-07 SAC MVP, leads the league in scoring (20.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.6 rpg) this year and has guided Wingate to a 22-5 overall record and 12-2 ledger in conference play. Barnette earned third-team NCAA Division II All-American honors last year and is the first player in SAC history to score 2,000 points in his career.
