Carson-Newman’s J.J. Wesley Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman College's J.J. Wesley has been named the South Atlantic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 29, 2009.
Wesley, a junior guard from Mobile, Ala. (Conners State College), led the Eagles to a 2-1 week, knocking down the game-winning jumper in a Monday night thriller against Alabama-Hunstville. The junior's 18-footer with under five seconds to play gave the Eagles a 65-64 win over the visiting Chargers. He led the Eagles with 15 points in the win.
Wesley, in his first season at Carson-Newman, followed with a
42-point weekend. He had 24 points in a loss to Georgia College
& State, hitting four of six 3-pointers, and added 18 points in
a win over North Georgia.
For the week, the Eagles' shooting guard averaged 19 points and two assists. He shot 52 percent (22-of-42) from the floor and 47.6 percent from behind the arc, knocking down 10-of-21 three-point attempts on the week.
