Wingate’s Larry Staley Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. ­- Wingate University senior guard Larry Staley has been named the South Atlantic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 20, 2009.

Staley, a senior guard from Charlotte, N.C. (Butler HS) had two solid games as the Bulldogs split two region contests last week. He netted a career-high 26 points in a tough 72-67 home loss to Coker College Monday night (Dec. 14). Staley contributed 10 points to a huge 90-85 home victory over Mount Olive College Wednesday night (Dec. 16).

Staley leads the balanced Bulldogs (6-4 overall) with 12.2 points per game. On Monday night against Coker, Staley hit eight-of-12 field goals and nine-of-10 free throws. Staley leads the Bulldogs in field goal percentage (62.0) and free throw percentage (84.2).

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, Dec. 29, taking on Georgia College in Savannah, Ga. Wingate will play host Armstrong Atlantic State on Dec. 30. The Bulldogs return home Jan. 2 to host Lincoln Memorial University at 4 p.m.
