Wingate’s Odell Turner Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. ­- Wingate University freshman forward Odell Turner has been named the South Atlantic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 3, 2010.

Turner, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C. (Myers Park HS) averaged 15.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game while leading Wingate to an impressive 3-0 record on the week.

Turner had 18 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks while hitting six-of-nine shots from the field as Wingate overcame a 16-point second half deficit for a 73-66 win over GCSU.

Turner followed with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 69-66 victory at Armstrong Atlantic State. He finished his week with 16 points, five boards, three blocks and three assists as Wingate improved to 2-0 in the SAC with an 86-71 win over LMU. Turner shot 51.6 percent from the field on the week. He leads the team with 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game on the year.
