Carson-Newman’s Sanders, LMU’s Cochran Named SAC Basketball Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman guard Ishmael Sanders and Lincoln Memorial center Lauren Cochran have been named the SAC Basketball Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Sanders led Carson-Newman to a pair of convincing non-conference wins last week that improved the Eagles to 7-4. On the week, Sanders averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting an efficient 50-percent from the field. He also had an assist-to-turnover ratio of nearly 3-to-1.
Against Tennessee Wesleyan, Sanders scored 18 points on seven-of-12 shooting, pulled down six rebounds and handed out five assists. He followed that up with 21 points, five rebounds and six assists in the Eagles' victory over Lees-McRae.
This marks Sanders' second Player of the Week selection of the 2011-12 season.
Cochran, meanwhile, scored 20 points - including a nearly spotless 10-of-11 from the field - in Lincoln Memorial's only game last week, a victory over King. The win helped LMU climb above the .500 mark on the season.
Cochran is currently second on the team by averaging 15.6 points per game, and leads the Railsplitters with a shooting percentage of 64.2.
