AU’s Shugart Earns Men’s Basketball Player of the Week; TC’s Baxter and LMU’s Salaman Share Women’s Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. - 2012's first full week of SAC basketball produced several big individual performances, led by Men's Player of the Week Taylor Shugart from Anderson and co-Women's Players of the Week Kendal Baxter from Tusculum and Dayshalee Salaman from LMU.
Shugart led Anderson to a pair of victories by averaging 22.5 points and 10 rebounds, keeping the Trojans unbeaten in league play.
The Rock Hill, S.C., native went for 23 points and nine boards against Lenoir-Rhyne, then followed the performance up with 22 points and 11 rebounds Saturday against Catawba.
Shugart shot 62.5-percent on the week and also added three assists, two blocks and two steals.
On the women's side, Tusculum's Baxter set SAC records by making 11 three-pointers in 20 attempts on Wednesday against Lincoln Memorial, finishing with a career-high 35 points.
The junior then scored 21 on Sunday in a victory over Wingate.
In addition to the hot shooting, Baxter also averaged 4.5 rebounds in the two games.
Salaman, meanwhile, led Lincoln Memorial to an undefeated week by averaging 35 points on 60.5-percent shooting. The senior guard poured in 36 against Tusculum on Wednesday, finishing 13-of-19 from the field and a perfect eight-for-eight from the foul line.
That performance was nearly duplicated on Saturday against Newberry, where Salaman went for 34 points and seven rebounds.
Overall, Salaman made 19-of-21 free throws over the two games while also averaging six rebounds and two steals per contest.
