Wingate’s Vaughn, Catawba’s Long Earn SAC Basketball Weekly Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate's Jaime Vaughn and Catawba's Nisha Long have been named the SAC basketball Players of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Both student-athletes played key roles in leading their teams to perfect 2-0 weeks.
Vaughn averaged 20.5 points on 55.6-percent shooting to lead the Wingate men in victories over Newberry and Brevard.
Against the Wolves on Wednesday, Vaughn scored a season-high 29 points - 22 of which came in a dominant first half. He hit 10-of-15 shots in the game, including six-of-seven three-pointers.
Vaughn then added 12 points, two assists and three steals as Wingate rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to win at Brevard on Sunday.
Long averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 steals four assists in Catawba's two victories last week as the Indians women's team moved into a tie for the top spot in the SAC standings.
The senior finished with 16 points, four assists and five steals in Catawba's win over Lenoir-Rhyne, then followed that up with a 15-point, four-assist performance on Saturday against Newberry.
Long also averaged seven rebounds per-game on the week.
