The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, Feb. 23

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry forward Xavier Holmes has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 16-22, the League announced today.

Holmes, a junior from Great Fall, S.C., averaged 20 points per game and shot 75 percent from the floor to lead the Wolves to a pair of key South Atlantic Conference wins last week.  At Queens on Feb. 18, he put in 21 points on 64 percent shooting, to go along with six rebounds, two blocks and one steal in a 90-85 win.  Three days later at Mars Hill, Holmes connected on 9-of-10 from the floor to finish with 19 points as the Wolves downed the Lions, 79-70.  He also came away with four rebounds and a pair of blocks in the win.  The honor is his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
