Five SAC Men's Basketball Players Named D2CCA All-Region; Queens' Willett Southeast Region Player of the Year

FLORENCE, SC – Queens University of Charlotte senior forward Shaun Willett (Palm Bay, Fla.) headlines the 2018-19 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Southeast Region Men's Basketball All-Region Team that was selected by NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors from institutions and conference offices.

Willett, the Southeast Region Player of the Year, is accompanied on the first team by senior forward Deane Williams (Bristol, England) of Augusta University, senior forward Brandon Parker (Sumter, S.C.) of Francis Marion University, senior guard Ty'lik Evans (Macon, Ga.) of USC Aiken, and junior guard DeQuan Abrom (Washington, D.C.) of Belmont Abbey College.

Previously named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, Willett is averaging 19.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, while leading Queens to a 28-4 record and the top seed for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.  He has connected on 52.3 percent of his field goal attempts, including 32.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and shot 70.6 percent at the foul line.  He garnered South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors three times this season and currently leads Division II with 25 double-doubles.

Williams and Parker shared Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year honors, with Williams averaging 15.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per contest, while Parker tallied 19.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.  Abrom garnered Conference Carolinas Player of the Year recognition after registering 24.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, while Evans, a first-team All-PBC selection, poured in 19.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per contest.  Williams, Parker, and Evans each helped lead their squad to a spot in the Southeast Regional.  Abrom was a second-team All-Region selection last season.

In addition to the first-team, five other players comprised the All-Region second team: junior guard Xzavier Barmore (Seneca, S.C.) of USC Aiken, junior guard Daniel Carr (North Augusta, Ga.) of Queens University of Charlotte, senior guard Marco Haskins (Fredericksburg, Va.) of Wingate University, junior guard Cornelius Taylor (Claxton, Ga.) of Lincoln Memorial University, and senior guard Jameel Taylor (Anderson, S.C.) of Catawba College.

The 2018-19 D2CCA men's basketball All-America team will be announced on Tuesday, March 26. The five first-team members from each of the country's eight regions are placed on the national ballot with NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors selecting first, second and third-team All-America honorees. The Ron Lenz Player of the Year will also be chosen from a list comprised of the eight Regional Players of the Year.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
