Lincoln Memorial and Catawba Claim Division Titles, Seeds Set for 2023 SAC Men's Basketball Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Nationally ranked No. 12 Lincoln Memorial won the 2022-23 South Atlantic Conference Mountain Division Title, while Catawba won the Piedmont Division Title and both teams have earned the No. 1 seeds in next week's SAC Men's Basketball Championship. Lincoln Memorial finished the regular season with a 16-2 record in league play, while Catawba finished the SAC schedule with a 15-3 record. 

Tusculum earned the No.2 seed in the Mountain division with an 11-7 record, while Newberry will be the No. 2 seed out of the Piedmont with a 12-6 record. Earning the No. 3 seed in the Mountain is UVA Wise who finished the season with a 9-9 mark.  Wingate landed at the No. 3 seed in the Piedmont, as it went 10-8 on the SAC season.

Rounding out the field with the No. 4 seeds in each division were Limestone in the Mountain with an 8-10 SAC record, and Coker in the Piedmont with a 6-12 conference record. Limestone won the tiebreaker over Carson-Newman, as both teams are 1-1 head-to-head and 0-2 against Lincoln Memorial, but Limestone is 1-1 versus Tusculum and Carson-Newman is 0-2. Coker won the tiebreaker over Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson by virtue of its 1-2 record against Catawba, while Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson were both 0-2.

The 2023 SAC Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday (March 1), before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 4 and 5. The SAC Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament.  The SAC Men's Basketball Championship schedule is as follows:
