The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week, Mar. 23
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Mars Hill's Jimmy McBride was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Kevin Haggerty from Tusculum was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played Mar. 16-22, the League announced today.
McBride, a senior from Westminster, B.C., scored nine goals and dished out four assists to lead the Lions to a 1-1 record last week. He got his week started with six scores, a pair of assists, four ground balls and three caused turnovers as Mars Hill picked up a 22-3 win over Brevard on March 18. Four days later at No. 9 Tampa, the attacker put in three goals and handed out two helpers in a narrow 12-10 loss. McBride finished the week with 17 shots with 11 shots on goal. The award is his first Offensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Haggerty, a sophomore from Suffern, N.Y., posted 25 saves in Tusculum's two Conference wins last week. Against Lincoln Memorial on March 17, the keeper notched 17 saves and a 70.8 save percentage in an 8-7 double-overtime win against the Railsplitters. He followed that effort with eight saves, including a crucial save with 21 seconds left in the contest to give the Pioneers a 7-6 win over Catawba on March 21. He posted a save percentage of 66 percent in the two game span as he spent 124:10 in goal. The honor is his second Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
