The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week, Mar. 30
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Coker's Josh Smith was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate Tim Ryan was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played Mar. 23-29, the League announced today.
Smith, a senior from Mendon, Mass., scored seven goals and dished out one assist to lead the Cobras to a pair of key South Atlantic Conference road wins last week. He got his week started with three goals and nine ground balls to push Coker to an 8-6 win over Wingate on March 25. Three days later against Catawba, the midfielder put in four scores, to go along with one assist and two ground balls in an 8-5 win. Smith finished the week with a 75 percent shot on goal percentage and posted a shot percentage of 58.3 percent. The award is his first Offensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Ryan, a senior from Glocester, R.I., notched 28 saves and posted a save percentage of 72 percent Coker's wins last week. Against Wingate he saved 75 percent of the Bulldogs' shots as he finished the contest with 18 saves. At Catawba, he posted 10 saves and turned in a save percentage of 67 percent. The honor is his second Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Also nominated for Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week: David Buono (Brevard), Ned Kaish (Lenoir-Rhyne) and Saxon Weil (Mars Hill).
