Pairings Announced For Food Lion SAC Men’s Soccer Tournament
ROCK HILL, SC - The Tusculum College men's soccer team, which won its second consecutive regular-season championship, has earned the top seed for the 2008 Food Lion SAC Men's Soccer Tournament, the conference office announced Sunday.
Tusculum and Carson-Newman College tied for the regular-season championship with 6-1-1 conference records. Tusculum earned the top seed by virtue of its 1-0 win over Carson-Newman during the regular season. The Pioneers, 15-2-1 overall, will host eighth-seed Catawba in the quarterfinals. Tusculum won the regular-season meeting 4-0.
Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne tied for seventh in the league standings. Lenoir-Rhyne earned the seventh seed by virtue of its 5-0 win over Catawba during the regular season.
Carson-Newman, 11-3-2 overall, is the second seed and will host Lenoir-Rhyne, 8-8-1 overall. Carson-Newman won the regular-season meeting 5-1.
Newberry College is the third seed. Newberry, 5-2-1 in the SAC and 5-10-1 overall, will host sixth-seed Wingate, 3-4-1 in the SAC and 10-6-2 overall. Newberry defeated Wingate 6-1 in the regular season.
Lincoln Memorial University is the fourth seed. The Railsplitters are 5-3 in the SAC and 10-6-2 overall. LMU is the defending tournament champions. The Railsplitters will host fifth-seed Mars Hill (4-4 in the SAC, 10-8 overall) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. It will be a rematch of last Wednesday's regular-season match, which LMU won 3-0.
Quarterfinal winners advance to the tournament semifinals, which will be held at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex in Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday, November 7. The two men's semifinals will be played at 6 p.m.
The men's tournament finals will be Sunday, November 9 at 4 p.m. at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex.
Admission to all Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament events is $5 for adults and $2 for college students and children.
