Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team And Award Winners Announced
ROCK HILL, SC - Tusculum College's Bruno Conceicão, who led the conference in goals per match and points per match, was named the 2008 South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Year and led a Pioneer sweep of the league's major awards at the soccer awards banquet held Thursday night.
Tusculum head coach Brett Teach, who guided the Pioneers to their second consecutive conference championship, was named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. Freshman forward Nick Rich, who played a big part in Tusculum's championship, was named Freshman of the Year.
The Pioneers placed five on the All-Conference first team. Joining Conceicão on the first team are midfielders Anteneh Lemma and Lucas Paulini and defenders Rory McCook and Sven Meyer. Midfielder Scott Lucky and goalkeeper Lance Moore were named to the second team.

Conference co-champion Carson-Newman College had six named to the All-Conference team. Forward Omar Cooke, defender Thomas Ostvold and goalkeeper Jordan Moore were named to the first team, while forward Robert Hill, Midfielder Everardo Flores and defender Matthew Finlay were named to the second team.
Lincoln Memorial University placed four on the All-Conference team. Forward Willian Moura; midfielder Aaron McKenna; and defender Felipe Nogueira were named to the first team, while goalkeeper Michael Watkins was named to the second team.
Lenoir-Rhyne University had three All-Conference honorees. Forward Aaron Wheeler was named to the first team, while midfielder Luis Carrizosa and defender Shawn Brunk were named to the second team.
Newberry College also had three All-Conference selections. Forward Debola Ogunseye was selected to the first team, while midfielder Shane Abbott and defender Jeffery Bell were named to the second team.
Wingate University had three named to the All-Conference team. Midfielder Luke Mulholland was named to the first team, while forward Junior Nyemb and defender Thomas Poole were named to the second team.
Mars Hill forward Ernest Sobers and defender Rondon Bacchus were named to the second team.
The All-Conference teams are selected by the league's head coaches.
The Fair Play Award for men's soccer went to Tusculum College. The award goes to the team that demonstrates good sportsmanship in conference play.
The 2008 SAC Scholar Athlete Award for men's soccer was presented to Kyle Ganow of Catawba College.
Ganow is a junior biology major with a 3.725 GPA, and is a member of three honor societies. He earned the Catawba freshman chemistry award and has been named to the dean's list, the presidential honor roll, the SAC Commissioner's honor roll and the Catawba athletic honor roll.
He has started 15 games as a defender for Catawba this season and scored one goal.
Kyle serves as a member of the Catawba student government association, the Dead Athenian Society and the American Chemistry Society. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Nature Safe and the Rowan Alliance Youth Soccer Club and has helped work with the Salisbury Hispanic Coalition.
