Tusculum
Tusculum College's Bruno Conceicão was named the 2008 Daktronics Men's Soccer Southeast Region Player of the Year, and is one of five Pioneers on the Southeast Region First Team. The Pioneers also placed two players on the second team, setting a school record with seven All-Region selections.
Conceicão is in the midst of his best statistical season at Tusculum, leading the South Atlantic Conference with 22 goals and 54 points to earn SAC Player of the Year honors for the first time in his career. Joining the 5-10, 165-pound forward on the first team are midfielders Scott Lucky and Anteneh Lemma, defender Sven Meyer, and TC's all-time shutouts leader goalkeeper Lance Moore.
Lemma has emerged as one of Tusculum's premier offensive weapons this season, entering this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Regional second on the team with 13 goals and 35 points. The 5-7, 145-pound half back received All-SAC honors for the second time in his career last week, as he finished the season third in the conference in points and fourth in goals.
Lucky, a native of Orangevale, Calif., earned All-Region honors for the first time in his career after being named to the All-SAC Second Team last week. The 6-0, 175-pound midfielder has led the Pioneers in assists for much of the season, entering the NCAA Tournament with 11 helpers thus far.
Meyer has been an integral part of one of the best back lines in NCAA II this season, as the Pioneers have held the opposition to less than one goal per match. The 2008 All-SAC First Team selection has started each of TC's 21 matches thus far as the Pioneers have tallied a conference-best 11 shutouts this season.
Moore has led the Pioneers to an 18-2-1 record so far this season, posting a program-record 11 shutouts and a 0.99 goals against average in more than 1900 minutes. A native of Morristown, Tenn., Moore allowed just one goal in three matches against ranked teams this season, including an eight-save clean sheet against SAC rival Carson-Newman College. The 6-2, 185-pound netminder has also set new program records in career shutouts (17) and goals against average (1.27) this season.
Midfielder Lucas Paulini and defender Rory McCook were also named to the All-Region Second Team for the Pioneers. Paulini has followed his SAC Freshman of the Year season of 2007 with one goal and 10 assists to earn first team all-conference honors for the second straight year. McCook was also named to the All-SAC Second Team last week, and has been a leader on a Tusculum squad that has reached the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in five years.
The Pioneers return to the pitch on Friday to face the winner of Francis Marion and Carson-Newman in the semifinal round of the NCAA II Southeast Regional at 7 p.m., which is being hosted by Tusculum.
Lincoln Memorial University
The Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team had three of its team members to earn Daktronics All-Southeast Region honors.
Leading the way for the Railsplitters and earning all-region honors for the second consecutive year was LMU junior defender Felipe Nogueira (Uberaba, Brazil). Nogueira, a 6-0 three-year letter-winner scored four goals from his defensive position this season while helping the defending national runners-up finish the year with an 11-7-2 overall record and a trip to the conference tournament semifinals. Nogueira is now a candidate to receive his second consecutive All-American honors which will be voted upon and released later this month.
Named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region Men's Soccer Second Team were sophomore midfielder Aaron McKenna (Birmingham, England) and junior midfielder Renato Segalla (Santo Andre, Brazil). McKenna is one of the most improved players from a year ago, stepping into a leadership role this year for the Raisplitters squad on the midfield and for his intense offensive and defensive skills. McKenna tallied two goals and one assist this season.
Also named to the 2008 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Men's Soccer Second Team was Railsplitter newcomer Renato Segalla. Throughout the season, Segalla was an instrumental part of the Railsplitter's offensive attack and recorded seven goals and one assist in leading the LMU men to their final season mark of 11-7-2. A junior, Segalla will return next year for his final year of college eligibility when the Railsplitters begin their next quest for a South Atlantic Conference title.
Newberry
For the second consecutive year Newberry College men's soccer senior forward Debola Ogunseye was named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team.
Ogunseye scored 15 goals and distributed 10 assists this year for the scarlet and gray, which placed him third in the conference in goals scored (15), second in points (40) and first in assists with 10.
Mars Hill
Mars Hill's Rondon Baccus (Point Fortin, Trinidad ) made the
2008 Daktronics Southeast Region First Team Defense. The team
boasts some of the top defenders in the country.
Bacchus started 17 games for the Lions this past season and was the
centerpiece of a defense that allowed only 1.56 goals per game.
Wingate
Wingate University sophomore midfielder Luke Mulholland (Preston, England) was named to the 2008 Daktronics men's soccer All-Southeast Region first team, while junior forward Junior Nyemb (Douala, Cameroon) was a second team selection.
Mulholland earns Daktronics first team all-region accolades for the first time in his career. He was named to the NSCAA All-Appalachian Region first team in 2007. Mulholland had eight goals and seven assists on the year, ranking sixth in the SAC in points and seventh in assists.
A first team All-SAC performer two years in a row, Mulholland started the 2008 campaign by scoring the match-winner in Wingate's 1-0 win at Florida Tech. Mulholland also netted the decisive goal in a 3-2 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian.
Nyemb is a repeat performer, as he was named to the Daktronics All-Region second team in 2007. Nyemb is a two-time NSCAA All-Appalachian Region first team selection. He led the team with 16 goals on the season, ranking second in the conference.
A second team All-SAC selection in 2008, Nyemb was fourth in the league with 33 points. He netted three goals in Wingate's 4-2 win over Coker. He scored a pair of goals in a 3-2 win at Francis Marion. Nyemb also notched a hat trick in the Bulldogs' 8-0 victory at Chowan. He tied for the league lead with six match-winners on the year.
Earlier this month, Nyemb was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III men's soccer second team for the second consecutive season. Nyemb is a three-time All-SAC selection (second team in 2006 and 2008 and first team in 2007).
