Wingate’s Luke Mulholland Named Men’s Soccer Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University midfielder Luke Mulholland has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending October 12, 2009, the league announced Tuesday.
Mulholland, a junior from Preston, England, scored six goals last week as the Bulldogs won two out of three contests to improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. Wingate is the only undefeated and untied team in league play.
An NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II All-America third team last
year, Mulholland posted two hat tricks in two SAC victories. On
Wednesday, he tallied three goals as Wingate posted a 3-0 shutout
at Newberry College. On Saturday, Mulholland scored three times in
an 8-0 home triumph over Brevard College.
Wingate is the number 20 team in the most recent NSCAA/adidas® NCAA Division II top 25 poll. The Bulldogs saw an eight-game winning streak end Monday in a 4-1 decision at Belmont Abbey College. Mulholland leads Wingate in scoring with 10 goals. He is also the top person on Wingate's point charts with 22.
