SAC Soccer Weekly Awards go to Wingate’s Da Silva, L-R’s Scruggs
With conference play now underway, Wingate forward Peron Da Silva and Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs have been selected as the SAC Soccer Players of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – With conference play now underway, Wingate forward Peron Da Silva and Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs have been selected as the SAC Soccer Players of the Week.
Da Silva had a pair of game-winning goals last week, leading Wingate to victories over Lander and Lenoir-Rhyne.
Against Lander, Da Silva scored midway through the second half in what was ultimately the match's lone goal. He took a total of eight shots in the contest.
Then on Saturday in WU's conference-opener against Lenoir-Rhyne, Da Silva netted the game-winner on a header in the 26th minute. The Bulldogs went on to win the match 3-1.
For the season, Da Silva has three goals – all of which have been game winners -- and an assist.

Scruggs got the Lenoir-Rhyne women off to a 1-0 league start by earning a shutout in the Bears' 4-0 victory over Wingate on Saturday night.
The senior stopped nine Bulldogs shots en route to her second shutout of the season. She is currently second in the SAC with a .914 save percentage.
Behind Scruggs, L-R is 4-1 overall and has a plus-11 goal differential.
