SAC Teams Gain Ground in Latest National Soccer Rankings
The Wingate and Mars Hill men's soccer programs and the Lenoir-Rhyne women's team have earned spots in this week's NSCAA national rankings, which were released Tuesday afternoon.
KANSAS CITY – The Wingate and Mars Hill men's soccer programs and the Lenoir-Rhyne women's team have earned spots in this week's NSCAA national rankings, which were released Tuesday afternoon.
After receiving votes in last week's men's poll, Wingate shot up to No. 15 in Tuesday's release. The Bulldogs are 7-1 overall, 4-0 in the SAC and have won five straight matches, including last week's victories over Newberry and Brevard.
Despite dropping its first league match of the season last week, Mars Hill is just behind WU at No. 19 in the poll. The Lions are currently 8-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
In the new Southeast Region rankings, Wingate is No. 2, while Mars Hill is No. 3. Catawba also earned a spot in the regional poll, checking in at No. 10.
In the women's national poll, Lenoir-Rhyne moved up three spots from last week to No. 19. L-R is unbeaten in SAC play at 4-0, having allowed just two goals in the conference. The Bears are 7-1 overall.
Lenoir-Rhyne is third in the women's Southeast Region poll, followed by No. 4 Tusculum, which is also unbeaten in the conference at 3-0.
Catawba was also ranked in the regional poll, tying with Lees-McRae for 10th.
