The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during the first week of the season. Wingate's Elliot Cutts was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Tusculum's Alejandro Quiriti was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
A junior midfielder from London, England, Cutts led the Bulldogs to a 1-1 record to begin the 2018 season. He started off the year in impressive style, scoring three goals in two matches for Wingate. He scored the Bulldogs' lone goal on a penalty kick in the season opener at Rollins. Cutts found the back of the net twice in the first half against Saint Leo, heading up a 3-2 victory. All three of his shots on goal have resulted in points for the Bulldogs. This is Cutts's first Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Quiriti, a native of Mar del Plata, Argentina, helped the Pioneers to a 2-0 week to open up 2018. The junior goalkeeper became the first keeper in program history to record back-to-back shutout victories as Tusculum defeated Emmanuel (Ga.) 1-0 and King (Tenn.) 3-0. Quiriti saved four shots on goal in each of the two games, including a diving save on a penalty kick and gathering up a follow-up rebound. This is Quiriti's first Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
