The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during the week of Sept. 4 through Sept. 9. Carson-Newman's Ashley Kelynack was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Wingate's Jakob Sellhed was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
A redshirt junior forward from High Wycombe, England, Kelynack led the Eagles to a perfect 2-0 week. He accumulated seven points on three goals and an assist, with 28 total shots, seven of which were on goal, in two matches. He scored his first multi-goal match of his career in the Eagle's home-opener against North Greenville. Kelynack added a goal and an assist, including the eventual game-winning goal against Barry. He now leads the Eagles in goals for the season with three. This is Kelynack's first Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Sellhed, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, helped the Bulldogs to a 1-0-1 week. The freshman defender was a key part of a pair of impressive defensive efforts for Wingate. In 200 minutes, Sellhed anchored Wingate's defense, allowing only three shots on goal. As a team, the Bulldogs kept Chowan off the board for 110 minutes to finish in a 0-0 draw, relenting just eight shots, with only one on goal. The Bulldogs then limited Flagler to five shots with two on frame in a 4-1 victory. In addition to his leadership on defense, Sellhed contributed a pair of assists in the win over the Saints. This is Sellhed's first Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
