The South Atlantic Conference Places Five Teams in United Soccer Coaches Men's Regional Rankings

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its second week of Division II men's soccer regional rankings on Tuesday (Sept. 11), with five teams representing the SAC in the southeast.

Preseason favorite, Wingate, leads the way for the conference at No. 4. The Bulldogs went 1-0-1 in their first two home matches, holding Chowan to a scoreless, double-overtime tie and dominating Flagler with 4-1 win. Reigning Defensive Player of the Week, Jakob Sellhed, helped the Bulldogs only relinquish one goal in 200 minutes on a combined three shots on goal, while also assisting with half of Wingate's goals.

The No. 5 spot is held by the Eagles of Carson-Newman, who are starting the season off with a perfect 3-0 record in non-conference action. In their two contests of the week, SAC AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week, Ashley Kelynack, scored two of the three goals in a home shutout of North Greenville and shot in the eventual game-winner in a 2-1 battle over Barry.

Queens University of Charlotte remained at the sixth spot after picked up two home wins, a 3-0 shutout of Erskine and a 4-2 victory over Francis Marion. Omer Okyar and Alberto Morales lead the Royals offense with two goals apiece in 2018. Morales scored in both contests during the week, while Okyar found the back of the net twice on penalty kicks against the Patriots.

Lenoir-Rhyne dropped from fifth to seventh after the Bears had the week off.

Mars Hill stays put at 10th for the second consecutive week. Splitting the two matches during the week, the Lions are now 3-1 heading into conference play. Sebastian Bertilsson scored in both contests and now leads the team with three goals on the season. Mars Hill lost their home-opener to Lees-McRae 5-1, but bounced back with a double-overtime thriller against Mount Olive, winning 2-1 on a golden goal in the 103rd minute.

South Atlantic Conference action will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, September 12.
