SAC Men's and Women's Swimming Championships Day Two Concluded; Wingate Remains in the Lead
Charlotte, N.C. – Both Wingate men and women remain in the lead after day two of the South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center Thursday.
Carson-Newman's Manon Compagner kicked off the finals session with a win in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall first at 52.92. Her teammate Kyla Blakemore finished second with a 56.09, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Kayana Taylor finished third with a 56.30. Compagner earned an NCAA DII A cut in the event.
Wingate men swept the 100 butterfly with Viacheslav Ohnov taking gold with a 48.05, Frederik Moeller earning silver with a 48.19, and Balint Kovacs claiming bronze with a 48.56. All three men earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
Carson-Newman's Rachel Peden claimed the top spot in the women's 400 Individual Medley, touching the wall first at 4:22.61. Wingate claimed the second and third place spots as Franziska Muhlberger finished at 4:22.70 and Lillian Sanocki followed at 4:24.56. All three women earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Micah McRea took gold in the men's 400 IM with a 3:51.91, while Wingate's Miguel Marcos Bargueno earned silver with a 3:53.43 and teammate Jack Wisniewski claimed bronze with a 3:56.91. All three men earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
Carson-Newman's Manon Compagner earned her second gold medal of the night, winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.11. Wingate's Lucinda Andrews followed in second with a time of 1:50.42 while teammate Nina Azirovic claimed third with a 1:50.51. All three women earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
Wingate men swept their second podium of the night as they took first in the 200 freestyle. Marcel Snitko took the top spot with a 1:35.84, Gabriel Costa finished second with a 1:37.59, and Ethan Hathcock finished third with a 1:37.93. All three men earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
Day two of the SAC Championships concluded with the 400 medley relay. On the women's side, Carson-Newman took first, touching the wall at 3:42.52 with a team of Kyla Blakemore, Breanna Belcher, Manon Compagner, and Lily Parr. Wingate's Marta Beesmans Barquero, Amanda Wenhold, Hana Kubalova, and Kelsea Munro finished second with a time of 3:44.79. Lenoir-Rhyne's Anna Gagnon, Lisa Boernigen, Kayana Taylor, and Ella Penny claimed third with a time of 3:51.38. Carson-Newman and Wingate earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
On the men's side, Wingate claimed first in the 400 medley relay, touching the wall at 3:11.50 with a team of Ney Chagas Filho, Fedor Sokolov, Frederik Moeller, and Viacheslav Ohnov. Carson-Newman's Arthur Gluzman, Asger Hartvig, Will Humphreys, and Hobson Stelling finished second with a 3:15.07. Lenoir-Rhyne's Nathan McCormick, Micah McRea, Renato Herran, and Chris Glebus took third with a 3:22.42. Wingate and Carson-Newman earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
