Wingate's Snitko Named 2023 South Atlantic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Marcel Snitko has been named the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Year, the Conference office announced on Tuesday (March 28).
A senior from Bad Zwischenahn, Germany, Snitko returned from the 2023 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships as a five-time All-American. He was a member of the 8th place 400 Freestyle Relay (2:55.91), the 7th place Medley Relay (1:26.91, new school record), and the 4th place 800 Freestyle Relay (6:24.57, new school record). In addition to the two school records, Snitko also set a new individual record in the 200 Freestyle for his first leg of the 800 Freestyle relay. His time of 1:34.83 broke an 11-year-old school record set by Iaroslav Denysenko in 2012. Individualy, Snitko earned two more All-American titles as he placed 5th in the 200 Freestyle (1:36.04) and 8th in the 100 Freestyle (44.06).
Snitko earned six gold medals at the inaugural South Atlantic Conference Championships, contributing to the Bulldog's first-place finish. He won the 100 Freestyle with a time of 43.51, the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:35.84, and the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 1:47.20. Snitko was also a member of the winning 200, 400, and 800 Freestyle Relays.
Snitko recorded numerous best times and program records to end his senior season. He was named the SAC Men's Swimmer of the Week four times, the most out of any SAC swimmer.
