Newberry Duo Named SAC Tennis Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry tennis players Cal Loveridge and Susana Aguirre both went undefeated in singles and doubles play last week, and on Wednesday were named the SAC Tennis Players of the Week, the conference office announced.

Loveridge opened his week by winning his No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles matches against Limestone on Friday.

He then won both matches on Monday against Lees-McRae, earning a victory in the No. 2 doubles contest with teammate Mohammed Chakir before defeating Graham Battle, 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 4 singles match.

Aguirre went an impressive 6-0 playing at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles last week as Newberry picked up wins against Columbia, Limestone and Lees-McRae.

Aguirre won all three of her singles matches in straight sets, including a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win over Columbia's Raven Fair.

Playing with teammate Ariel Strong, Aguirre was also impressive in her doubles matches, losing just seven games combined in the three victories.
