Tusculum Tandem Named SAC Tennis Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Tusculum's Steven Lin and Holly Verner posted undefeated records in singles and doubles last week and have been selected as the SAC Tennis Players of the Week, the league's office announced Wednesday.
Lin cruised through his five matches last week, posting three victories in the singles round. Despite Tusculum loss to King, the senior posted a singles win in his only match. Lin returned to the court four days later against North Greenville and captured his doubles match with teammate Paul Wiederspahn and tallied a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
The following day, facing Belmont Abbey, the Taiwan native paired up again with Wiederspahn and grabbed an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Lin closed out his week with a singles victory to help Tusculum bring down Belmont Abbey, 7-2.
Verner paced the Pioneers to a 3-0 record last week and she captured all of her singles and doubles matches. Playing at No. 1 singles, Verner won all her matches in straight sets, highlighted by a 6-0, 6-1 victory over King's Karissa King.
Teaming up with Katelyn Doss, the duo never dropped more than two points as they cruised in three doubles matches at the No. 1 position. The freshman is now 5-1 in singles and 5-1 in doubles on the season.
