Carson-Newman’s Holdway, Wingate’s Poole Named SAC Tennis Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman's Derek Holdway and Wingate's Olivia Poole have been named SAC Tennis Players of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.
Holdway was a key contributor to Carson-Newman's perfect 2-0 start in conference play this week, finishing undefeated in both singles and doubles play. The junior, alongside freshman Austin McKay, captured all three doubles matches, including an 8-1 win over Brevard and an 8-2 victory against Newberry.
In singles, Holdway earned three straight-set victories on the week, highlighted by a 6-4, 6-4 win over Newberry's Mohammed Chakir which tied the match at 3-3. The Eagles eventually won the match, 5-4.

Poole posted 2-0 records in both singles and doubles action for the
week. The sophomore paired up with teammate Tiffany Williams and
captured a 9-7 victory over North Georgia and an 8-0 win over
Lincoln Memorial, both coming at the No. 2 position.
The Boca Raton, Fla. native also cruised through the singles round, as she earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory against North Georgia. Poole followed that performance with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Lincoln Memorial to lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 record for the week.
