Wingate Duo Earns SAC Tennis Player of the Week Honors
Wingate freshman Kennedy Cancelado and sophomore Becca Thomas have been picked as the SAC Tennis Players of the Week after leading their teams to a combined 4-0 record, the league office announced on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate freshman Kennedy Cancelado and sophomore Becca Thomas have been picked as the SAC Tennis Players of the Week after leading their teams to a combined 4-0 record, the league office announced on Monday.
Cancelado went 4-0 playing at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles as the Wingate men defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 9-0 and Belmont Abbey 6-1.
Against the Bears, Cancelado defeated David Richardson 6-2, 5-7, 10-7 in the top singles position, and teamed with Ryan Forbes to beat L-R's duo of Jordan Lawson and David Richardson, 8-1.
Then against Belmont Abbey, Cancelado defeated Conner McMann in the No. 1 singles match in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, and again teamed with Forbes to handle BAC's doubles tandem of Rodrigo Alatorre and Gabriel Trombini, 8-1.
For the season, Cancelado is 4-3 in singles matches and 5-2 in doubles play.

Thomas led the Wingate women to victories over Lenoir-Rhyne and Belmont Abbey by going unbeaten at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Thomas opened her week by defeating L-R's Ivey Tant 6-0, 6-3 in singles play and teamed with Ali Evers to blank the Bears' tandem of Nateesha Hurt and Kelsey Love, 8-0.
The Alpharetta, Ga., native then shut out Belmont Abbey's Brooke Ingram in the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Evers to defeat Kirstie Jenkins and Katherine Miller in the No. 1 doubles position, 8-6.
Thomas is 5-1 in singles play and 6-0 in doubles matches so far in 2013.
