Wingate Duo Claims First SAC Tennis Weekly Awards
Wingate’s Filippo Pezzoli and Caroline Holland have earned the first SAC Tennis Player of the Week awards of the 2014 season, it was announced on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate's Filippo Pezzoli and Caroline Holland have earned the first SAC Tennis Player of the Week awards of the 2014 season, it was announced on Monday.
SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week | Filippo Pezzoli, Wingate
Pezzoli opened his spring season by going 3-1 in singles matches and 2-2 in doubles play as Wingate went 2-2 as a team last week.
Pezzoli earned singles wins over Johnson C. Smith's Yusuf Barnes, North Greenville's Juan Vargas and Campbell's Rik van Gerwen. He teamed with Tyler Schofer in doubles play, earning victories over NGU's duo of Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa and JCSU's Tuan Nguyen and Hazel Vazquez.
SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week | Caroline Holland, Wingate
Holland went 2-2 in both singles and doubles play last week, helping Wingate open its season 2-2 as a team.
Holland won all four of her matches against Division II opponents. She claimed singles victories over Johnson C. Smith's Keiana Love and North Greenville's Maggie Elliot, while teaming with Morgan Winston to claim doubles matches over JCSU's Rankin Anderson and Nichelle Heard and NGU's Rebecca Beacham and Victoria Gomez. Her losses came against Division I opponents Campbell and Gardner-Webb.
