SAC Tennis Weekly Awards go to Queens’ Athalis, Wingate’s Evers
Queens freshman Jules Athalis and Wingate senior Ali Evers have been voted as the SAC Tennis Players of the Week following strong performances in doubles and singles action last week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Queens freshman Jules Athalis and Wingate senior Ali Evers have been voted as the SAC Tennis Players of the Week following strong performances in doubles and singles action last week.
SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week | Jules Athalis, Queens
Athalis went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play, leading Queens to SAC victories over Catawba and Mars Hill.
Athalis teamed with Per-Erik Soler to win both doubles matches by a combined score of 17-11. His singles win over Mars Hill came in straight sets, while he needed three sets to earn a singles victory against Catawba.
The two team victories kept Queens perfect on the season, now at 6-0 overall.
SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week | Ali Evers, Wingate
Evers won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for Wingate against 40th-ranked GRU Augusta on Monday, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 5-4 team victory.
Evers partnered with Becca Thomas to beat Augusta's Aida Castany and Gisela Font in doubles play, 8-2. She then earned a singles win over Castany, 6-2, 6-4.
Evers is now 1-3 in singles matches and 3-1 in doubles action this season.
