Wingate Pair Sweeps SAC Tennis Weekly Awards
Wingate junior Neal Towlson and senior Ali Evers have been named the SAC Tennis Players of the Week after both Bulldog teams picked up wins over Limestone and Carson-Newman.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate junior Neal Towlson and senior Ali Evers have been named the SAC Tennis Players of the Week after both Bulldog teams picked up wins over Limestone and Carson-Newman.
SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week | Neal Towlson, Wingate
Towlson won all four of his singles and doubles matches last week, helping the Wingate men improve its record to 10-6 overall and 5-0 in SAC play.
Towlson opened his week on Wednesday with a three-set win over Limestone's Antoine Le Dore in the No. 1 singles match and an 8-4 victory with partner Sebastian Hall over Le Dore and Daniel Lopez in the No. 1 doubles match. He then earned a 6-1, 6-2 singles win over Carson-Newman's Juan Sebastian Perez and an 8-2 doubles victory over Perez and Stefano Daza on Saturday – both in the No. 1 positions.
Towlson is now 6-8 in singles play and 8-7 in doubles action this season for the Bulldogs.
SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week | Ali Evers, Wingate
Evers played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for Wingate, going 4-0 individually in the Bulldogs' team wins over Limestone and Carson-Newman.
In singles play, Evers earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Limestone's Alexandra Boulbin and a 6-2, 6-0 win against Carson-Newman's Patricia Guerreiro. She also partnered with teammate Becca Thomas in doubles, picking up wins over LC's Marian Pinate and Julia Moreira, and C-N's tandem of Guerreiro and Jennifer Ott.
On the season, Evers is 8-6 in singles and 8-5 in doubles matches. WU currently leads the SAC with a 5-0 conference record.
