Wingate's Walcher Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Tennis Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Florian Walcher has been named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played during week four of the 2023 season, the Conference announced today.

Walcher, a sophomore from Austria, went undefeated last week at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles with wins over Montevallo and No. 2 Columbus State. Walcher and doubles partner, Carlo Rosselini, picked up a 6-3 win over Montevallo and a 6-4 win over Columbus State. Walcher picked up two major wins at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3 win versus Montevallo, and taking down the top-ranked singles player in the country in his 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win versus Columbus State. With these wins, Walcher remains a perfect 5-0 on the season at No. 1 singles.
