Queens Sweeps SAC AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens' Jan Lukas Becker was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and teammate Martin Knauer was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the third week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Becker, a sophomore distance runner from Saarbruecken, Germany, turned in an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time of 13:56.62 in the 5,000-meter run at the GVSU Big Meet last week. His time earned him a fourth place finish overall and moved him into second place all-time in the Queens' record book for the 5,000-meter run.
Knauer, a senior thrower from Wolnzach, Germany, set a new program record in the shot put with an 18.34-meter toss at the VMI Winter Classic last week. The NCAA provisional mark earned him first place at the meet and is one of the top-five throws in the nation.
The award is Becker's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Knauer's second Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
