Carson-Newman's Charamba and Emory & Henry's Martin Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Makanakaishe Charamba was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Emory & Henry's Colby Martin was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the third week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Charamba, a sophomore sprinter from Harare, Zimbabwe, won the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at the VMI Invitational last week. He earned NCAA provisional times in both events, winning the 60-meter with a time of 6.78 seconds and he won the 200-meter with a time of 21.38 seconds.
Martin, a senior jumper from Fork Union, Va., posted two top-5 finishes at the J.J. & Kaye Smith Invitational in the long jump and triple jump. He placed third in the long jump with an NCAA provisional leap of 6.02 meters and he placed fourth in the triple jump with an NCAA provisional jump of 12.54 meters.
