Wingate's DMR Team and Lenoir-Rhyne's Wadsworth Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Distance Medley Relay team of Lars Laros, Deon Sumpter, Jakob Rettschlag, and Hamza Chahid were named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track Athletes of the Week, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Jacob Wadsworth was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the seventh week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
The Wingate DMR team was the top NCAA Division II team and third overall in the distance medley relay at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The group posted a time of 9:40.74 in the event, the top mark in NCAA Division II this season. The time shatters the Wingate record of 10:03.54.
Wadsworth, a senior from Dansville, N.Y., won the men's heptathlon and set a new program record with 5,423 points at the Division II Pre-National Meet over the weekend. Wadsworth also established a new Lenoir-Rhyne record in the long jump with a leap of 7.22 meters.
