Carson-Newman's Charamba Named 2023 SAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Makanakaishe Charamba has been named the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced on Friday (March 24).
A sophomore sprinter from Harare, Zimbabwe, Charamba won the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 20.55 seconds, setting a new Carson-Newman record in the event and setting the facility record at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. In addition to his national championship, Charamba placed seventh and earned All-American honors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.82 seconds.
Charamba also captured the 2023 SAC Indoor title in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.72 seconds and he was a member of the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay team that took fourth at the SAC Championship. Throughout the indoor season Charamba won five gold medals and turned in the fastest time in NCAA Division II in the 200m, running 20.99 seconds at the DII Pre-National meet.
The SAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award is determined by a vote by the league's head coaches.
