ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Kieran Showler-Davis was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Wingate's Nate Patterson was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested March 26-April 1, the League office announced today.
Showler-Davis, a senior from Winchester, England, turned in a first place finish and the third fastest time in NCAA Division II in the 100-meter dash at the Montreat Invitational. His time of 10.34 seconds also qualified as an NCAA provisional mark. Showler-Davis also earned an NCAA provisional time in the 200-meter dash with his time of 21.20 seconds. He placed second in the 200-meter and now holds the seventh fastest time in NCAA Division II.
Patterson, a senior from Mauldin, S.C., won the triple jump at the Wingate/Tiffin dual meet with a leap of 15.65 meters. His jump also earned him a ticket to the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as the mark was good enough to be an automatic qualifier. He is currently ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II in the triple jump.
The award is Showler-Davis' first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Patterson's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
