The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Philip Quillen was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Queens' Stefan Jungmichel was named AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the third week of the 2021 outdoor season, the Conference office announced today.
Quillen, a senior distance runner from Spartanburg, S.C., cruised to a first place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:01.92 seconds at the LR Bears Open last weekend. He defeated a field of SAC opponents to take the top spot by nearly six seconds. In addition to winning the event, Quillen set a new outdoor PR time with the run.
Jungmichel, a junior multi-athlete from Delitzsch, Germany, took first place in the decathlon at the Charlotte 49er Classic last week. He posted a score of 6,821 points, establishing a new Queens decathlon record and earning an NCAA Division II provisional mark. Jungmichel placed first or second in all but one event that he competed in during the meet.
