The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– Catawba's Brien Pittman was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Wingate's Elliot Zirwas was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the first week of the outdoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Pittman, a senior from Greensboro, N.C., won the 400 meters at the Charlotte 49ers Classic running a provisional qualifying time of 47.53 seconds; which is the 6th- best time nationally in Division II.
Zirwas, a graduate student from Fort Pierce, Fla., won the men's shot put at the Charlotte 49ers Classic with a mark of 18.38 meters, which is a new school record and the third-best mark in NCAA Division II this season. Zirwas smashed both this previous school record (17.70 meters) and the 2022 NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark (16.67 meters).
This award is Pittman's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Zirwas' first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
