The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– Queens' Jan Lukas Becker was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate, Martin Knauer was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the second week of the outdoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Becker, a junior from Saarbruecken, Germany set a new school record that was set in 2008 in the 10,000-meter run at the Raleigh Relays, clocking an 11th-best time of 28.27.98; a DII provisional mark that ranks him second in the nation.
Knauer, a graduate student from Wolnzach, Germany, highlighted the Royals' efforts at the Winthrop Invite on day two, turning in a first-place finish in the men's shot put. Knauer recorded a DII provisional throw of 17.74 meters (58-2.5) and ranked him seventh in the nation; while also placing second in the discus throw.
This award is Becker's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Knauer's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
