Carson-Newman's Charamba Named USTFCCCA Men's Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year; 44 SAC Athletes Earn All-Academic Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Makanakaishe Charamba has been named the 2023 DII Men's Track Scholar Athlete of the Year, the USTFCCCA announced today. Additionally, 44 student-athletes earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors and 12 SAC teams were named All-Academic Teams.
Charamba, who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.42, swept the short sprint titles at the 2023 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships with victories in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. This is the first time in program history that an athlete from Carson-Newman has been named National Scholar Athlete of the Year in either indoor or outdoor track & field.
Wingate had the most SAC men named to the All-Academic list with 10. Limestone followed with six, Lenoir-Rhyne with five, Carson-Newman, Catawba, and Tusculum with two, and Anderson with one. Anderson, Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, and Wingate were each named All-Academic Teams.
On the women's side, Wingate had the most SAC athletes named to the All-Academic list with six. Carson-Newman, Catawba, and Lenoir-Rhyne had three, and Limestone and Tusculum had one. Anderson, Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill, Tusculum, and Wingate were each named All-Academic Teams.
