The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Cross Country Runners of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Cross Country Runners of the Week for meets competed in during the fifth week of the 2023 season. Carson-Newman's Katie Smock was named the Women's Runner of the Week while Wingate's Ricardo Barbosa was named the Men's Runner of the Week.
Smock, a senior from Kodak, Tenn., claimed the victory in the women's 5K at the ASICS Invitational with a time of 18:18.76. She was one of three Eagles to finish in the top-five, leading Carson-Newman to a team victory as well.
Barbosa, a junior from Agulva, Portugal, finished seventh out of 392 student-athletes in the College Gold Division of the 49th annual Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He posted an 8K time of 24:13.2, guiding the Bulldogs to a second place finish out of 42 schools.
