WESTLAKE, Ohio – Wingate has finished No. 33 and Lenoir-Rhyne No. 76 in the 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, which recognizes cumulative postseason success across all of NCAA Division II.
Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne were the highest-ranked SAC member institutions in the final standings. Five schools – Newberry, Anderson, LMU, Mars Hill and Carson-Newman – finished in the No. 100-200 range, while Tusculum and Catawba placed in the 200s.
Wingate's strong finish in the standings was bolstered in the spring by NCAA Championship appearances in softball and women's tennis. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, had its position in the standings improved by a run to the NCAA Softball Championship regional semifinals.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institutions' finish in up to 14 sports – seven men's and seven women's.
Grand Canyon of the Pacific West Conference finished No. 1 in the final 2012-13 standings.
