Pairings Announced For 2008 Food Lion SAC Softball Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles, who won their 13th regular-season conference title, will be the top seed for the 2008 tournament, which begins Thursday at Newberry College in Newberry, S.C.
Carson-Newman finished as league co-champion with Lenoir-Rhyne College with 12-2 league records. The two teams split their regular-season meetings. Carson-Newman earned the top seed by sweeping third-place Wingate University.
Carson-Newman (12-2, 42-6 overall) will face Tusculum College (2-11, 17-22) in a first-round game at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Lenoir-Rhyne College, the defending tournament champions, is the second seed. Lenoir-Rhyne (12-2, 39-10) will face tournament host Newberry (3-10, 19-23) at 2 p.m. L-R has now won three straight and four of the last five SAC titles.
Wingate University (9-5 SAC, 29-15) is the third seed and will face sixth-seed Catawba College (4-10 SAC, 22-23) at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.
The tournament kicks off Thursday with fourth-seed Lincoln Memorial (7-7 SAC, 31-14) facing fifth-seed Mars Hill (8-8 SAC, 35-14).
Tournament play continues with six games on Friday. Two games Friday will be played at Newberry High School.
Three more games are set for Saturday. The championship game will be played Sunday at Newberry College at 1 p.m., with a second game, if necessary, to follow.
All-Tournament tickets will be available at the gate for $12 for adults and $6 for students and children. Daily ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students and children.
