The South Atlantic Conference Announces Softball Players of the Week, April 11
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Kristen Toppel was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, teammate Allison Webster was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 4-10, the League announced today.
Toppel, a sophomore from Roanoke, Va., slugged .833 with six hits and four doubles to lead her squad to a 3-1 record in South Atlantic Conference play last week. She posted a hit in each game she played in, including a pair of multi-hit games. Toppel posted a double in all four games and drove in four runs. She batted .500 in the four-game span, while posting an on-base percentage of .600. The award is her first Player of the Week nod this season.
Webster, a junior from Charlestown, Ind., threw her first career no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over Anderson on April 6. She followed that effort with two more wins on the week as she posted a complete game shutout win in game two of the double header and a five inning win over Coker on April 9. She finished the week with 34 strikeouts to go along with just two earned runs in 23.2 innings pitched. The honor is her first Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
