The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors
Newberry utility player Haley Simonds has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Player of the Week, and Coker right-handed pitcher Christine Carver has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 16-22, the League announced today.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry utility player Haley Simonds has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Player of the Week, and Coker right-handed pitcher Christine Carver has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 16-22, the League announced today.
Simonds, a sophomore from Pasadena, Md., was nearly unstoppable at the plate for the Wolves last week as she collected at least a hit in each of their four games, batting .545 with a home run and three doubles. She also drove in nine runs, walked three times and had a slugging percentage of 1.091.
Carver, a sophomore from Waxhaw, N.C., had an outstanding week in the circle for the Cobras, as she posted a 2-0 record with two complete games. For the week, she threw 18 and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs on nine hits with 11 strikeouts. She finished the week with a 0.89 earned run average.
This is Simonds' second Player of the Week honor this season, while this is the third Pitcher of the Week accolade for Carver this season.
