Carson-Newman Sweeps AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week for games played during April 1 through April 7. Carson-Newman swept the player and pitcher honors with Abby Fiessinger and Allison Rager, respectively.

A junior infielder, Fiessinger had at least one extra base hit in all four games of the week to lead the Eagles to victory in every matchup. The Benton, Ky. native hit .500, had an on-base percentage of .529, and slugged 1.143. She finished with seven hits, four runs, three doubles, two homers, two walks, and batted in 11 teammates. In the 17-4 blowout of Tusculum, Fiessinger recorded five RBI with four coming on a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. This is Fiessinger's second Player of the Week honor of the season.

Rager, a senior right-handed pitcher, logged 17 innings of work, including two seven-inning complete games, and earned three wins for the Eagles in the process. The Elkview, W. Va. native struck out 20 batters on the week, with 13 coming in just one outing. The mark is a career-high for Rager and the fourth-most in Carson-Newman program history in a single game. Also a batter, she had a batting average of .462, on-base percentage of .533, and slugged .846. Rager added six hits, five runs, two doubles, one home run, two walks, and batted in a pair of runners in 13 at bats. This is Rager's first Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
