The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week for games played in the third weekend of the 2021 season. Lincoln Memorial's Ty-kella Goins earns the Player honor while Anderson's Laken Maxwell earns the Pitcher honor.
A senior second baseman Goins, helped lead the Railsplitters to a sweep over non-conference opponent Lee this past weekend. Overall, the Ramseur, N.C., native averaged a .625 batting average, going 5-for-8 from the plate with a .875 slugging percentage, two doubles and four runs scored. This is Goins' first Player of the Week honor of the season.
Maxwell, a freshman pitcher, continues to dominate the mound as the Trojans went 2-0 this past week. In their game versus Lees-McRae she only allowed one run and three hits while striking out 11 batters. Maxwell went on to strike out 12 batters and give up no runs versus Chowan. Overall, she went 14 innings allowing just six hits, two walks and striking out 23. This is Maxwell's second consecutive Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
